A scientific conference was held at the Research Institute of Nyíregyháza, University of Debrecen on October 12, 2022. The main purpose of the meeting was to present those plant species that can be used in greening and to discuss the key points of its application methods. More than 80 consultants, farmers, traders, researchers and students participated in this event, as well as, György Zsolt Papp, Deputy Secretary of State, responsible for the implementation of rural development programs. The event started with a welcome speech from György Zsolt Papp, followed by István Román, lord lieutenant, from the Government Office for Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, then Dr. Endre Harsányi, Deputy rector of University of Debrecen welcome the guests.  

After the welcome ceremony Dr. László Zsombik, senior researcher of the Research Institute of Nyíregyháza, gave a talk entitled “Parallels and contrasts between Westsik’s crop rotation and today’s green fertilization practice”, then Vivien Pál, PhD student presented the results of her 3-year experiment (Green manuring research based on the portfolio of plant species of Research Institute of Nyíregyháza).  

The next speaker, Mr. Tibor Bányai, president of the Hungarian Soybean and Protein Plant Association, presented the Hungarian agroecological basic programs. He explained in detail the expected financial supports for farmers in 2023.  

Last but not least Dr. Nóra Mendler-Drienyovszki, senior researcher, scientific responsible of UNIDEB in the InnoVar project, showed her presentation entitled “Innovations in variety testing – description of InnoVar project (Horizon2020)”, gave an overview of the project, main aims of the different WPs and tasks, presenting the role of the Research Institute of Nyíregyháza were presented.
